Abstract/Description

Description / Synopsis

This article discuss and speculates on the conditions aboard the Komagata Maru, the hunger strike being carried out by the passengers on board, and Gurdit Singh--s request that the passengers be allowed to disembark and go to a temporary shelter while waiting for the court appeal to be heard. Gurdit Singh offers to pay for housing and feeding the passengers while they wait and also states that he will pay the remainder owing to the owners of the steamship when the passengers are allowed to go ashore. The article discusses several objections to the proposal and also speculates on Gurdit Singh--s plans to travel back to India to rally support for the passengers once they have been allowed to come ashore.
