All existing UCFV permits become void on this day. e Additional employee parking will be established in Abbotsford near Building E. e Employee parking will be created in Chilliwack, most of it behind the main building from the staff lounge to the bookstore, with some spaces near the Health Sciences Centre. e Students and those not wanting to park in employee lots will be charged 50 cents per day to park in. general lots (one ticket is good on both campuses). e Carpool lots will be set up on both campuses for groups of three or more who purchase carpool permits. e Employee passes will cost $15 per month for those earning over $35,000/year and $7.50 per month for those earning less than that. Pay parking starts Feb. 14 After several delays, pay parking will begin at the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses on Monday, Feb. 14. Originally slated to start in September, pay parking was delayed until January at the request of the Student Society to allow more time for planning. When the announcement that it was imminent generated many questions and suggestions, it was delayed for another month so that the Bursar’s office could hear concerns and respond to them. One concern that was quickly addressed was the cost of student parking — it was lowered to 50 cents per day from $1. Many other concerns were aired at parking forums in mid-January hosted by President Peter Jones and Bursar Norah Andrew. At the forums, Jones said that it was necessary to implement pay parking because of: e the need to generate revenue to cover a $50,000 shortfall in the 93/94 budget and to avoid such shortfalls in the future — “if it doesn’t come from pay parking, it will have to come from somewhere else” e the refusal of the Ministry to include the cost of parking lots in funding for new buildings, and the resulting need to create reserve funds for future lots e increased costs of maintaining and patrolling current lots due to rising Please see page 2
