Festival Although it was a somewhat scaled down version, the Abbotsford Arts/Peace Festival celebrated its tenth anniversary at UCFV’s Abbotsford campus August 6-9. Polisci and Religious Studies instructor Ron Dart, who also organizes the event, said this year’s festival included ‘a vigil remembering the bombing of Hiroshima; a reading from Andreas Schroeder, a Mission peace mennonite, from his about—to—be—published short story on rural Mennonite culture in the area; and a lively bout of protest music by the Celtic band “Fear of Drinking”. The festival continued on Saturday with a live theatre performance about leading Israeli dissident and peace activist, Vanunu Mordechai, who has spent the last 15 years in Ashkelon prison in solitary confinement. Vanunu has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. oa It concluded with a worship service Sunday morning at Highland Community church.
