Date and Nut Loaf 1 cup chopped dates 34, cup ROGERS’ GOLDEN SYRUP 1 tsp. salt 14 cup boiling water 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 114 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 14 cup chopped walnuts 1/4, cup oil or melted shortening Put dates, syrup and salt in a bowl. Add boiling water and stir, then let stand until cool. Add well-beaten egg and vanilla. Sift dry ingre- dients, add to date mixture, stirring as little as possible; add nuts and oil. Pour into 9” loaf pan, lined with oiled waxed paper. Let stand 20 min. then bake in 325°F. oven for 1 hr. Chocolate Marshmallow Cake 12 cup butter or shortening ¥Y4 cup granulated sugar Y2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs ¥2 cup ROGERS’ GOLDEN SYRUP 2 squares chocolate, unsweetened (melted) 1% cups cake flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk Blend together butter, sugar, salt. Add 2 eggs well beaten. Add syrup, chocolate and blend well. Sift dry ingredients, add to butter mix- ture, then alternately with milk. Add vanilla Pour into 2 9-inch layer pans, bake at 350°F 30 min. or until done. Cool. Walnut Cake 13 cup shortening 1 cup granulated sugar 2 cup ROGERS’ GOLDEN SYRUP 2’ cups all-purpose flour V2 tsp. salt 21/2 tsp. baking powder %4 cup milk 1 cup finely chopped walnuts 1 tsp. almond flavoring 4 egg whites Cream shortening, add sugar and ROGERS’ GOLDEN SYRUP, cream until light and fluffy. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Add nuts and flavoring. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into an 8” pan which has been lined with greased paper. Bake in moderate oven, 350°F, for 40 min. or until done. Spiced Raisin Loaf 14 cup seedless raisins 12 cup Golden Yellow Sugar ¥2 cup ROGERS’ GOLDEN SYRUP 1 cup boiling water 14 cup cooking oil 1 tsp. salt V2 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp. soda 14 tsp. baking powder Combine first 8 ingredients in saucepan and simmer gently 5 minutes. Cool mixture. Sift flour with soda and baking powder; stir into raisin mixture, blending well. Pour batter into 9 x 5 inch well greased loaf pan. Bake at 350°F for 1 hr. until done. EEE LEAL
