UNIVERSITY COLLEGE of the FRASER VALLEY Volume 8, Number 6 November 2, 1993 UCFYV board and FSA settle new three-year contract A new three-year contract was settled by the UCFV Board and the UCFV Faculty and Staff Association on October 26. The new agreement calls for wage adjustments to follow the average annual percentage increase at other provincial colleges until March 1997. The same percentage wage increases will be given to both faculty and staff. As well, the contract guarantees job security for all FSA members with two, or more years of seniority during the life of the agreement. New clauses in the contract also offer medical and dental benefits for part-time employees, an option for job sharing, and a commitment to ensure equal pay for work of equal value. The terms of the new contract also establish a process for further work on a number of issues. These include agreements to set up joint committees that will discuss new models of instruction, examine new forms of faculty evaluation, and review workloads for staff. “This is a sound and positive agreement providing improved job security and minimal wage increases along with an agreement to look at innovative methods of providing better access to more students with the limited resources we must all live with in this new economic reality,” said UCFV Board chair Brian Minter. “The Board appreciated the positive tone of the negotiations and gives a great deal of credit to Personnel director Barry Bompas and the FSA executive.” UCFYV president Peter Jones says the new contract will allow UCFV to meet many challenges. ‘As in the rest of society, the post-secondary system is going through profound transitions,” said Jones. “I believe that the extended term of this agreement and the job security clause especially will enable us to create an environment in which we can make the changes necessary to improve greatly our service to the people of our region.” FSA president Chery!
