THE DAILY PROVINCE AUGUST 28, 1913 HINDUS FIND WAY TO ENTER CANADA ------------------- Discover Continuous Route from India on Japanese Line. ------------------- Victoria, Aug. 28,--After a careful and thoroughly careful study of the regulations dealing with Hindu immigration to Canada and an exhaustive enquiry into the routes of different steamship companies which come to this country from the Indian Empire, the British subjects of that eastern domain have succeeded in paving a way for their entry into Canada. It is expected that the Hindus will arrive here in the future in as large numbers as the Chinese and Japanese. When the Nippon liner Sanuki Maru was berthed at the outer docks last evening the immigration officials here found that they were confronted with the Hindu problem again. Three natives of the Asiatic country applied for admission to this country and today they are being examined by the officials and in all probability will be permitted to remain. The small party which arrived yesterday is the second to come in the last month and now that the Hindus find that, provided they can pass the health examination and comply with the other requirements of the regulations, they can enter Canada, they will be flocking here in large numbers. The Dominion regulations state that the Hindu must come here by direct voyage from the land of his birth. This question of coming direct has been bothering the Hindu for some time. The Nippon Yusen Kaisha has service from Bombay and Calcutta to Yokohama and Hongkong and as they connect with the transpacific boats of the line the Hindu decided to try this route and see what the outcome would be. The Sado Maru, which arrived several weeks ago, brought in five new THE DAILY PROVINCE AUGUST 28, 1913 Hindus and they were admitted to Canada. It is understood that this party and the one which arrived yesterday on the Sanuki were used to test the new plan.
