A MY FAVORITE BUNS Mrs. Stanley Peach. 1 pkg. yeast. 2'4-cups luke warm water. 2 tbsp. lard. 6 cups sifted flour. 4 tbsp. sugar. 1 tsp. salt. Dissolve 1 tsp. sugar in 4%-cup luke warm water, add yeast and let stand 15 minutes. Beat lard, sugar, salt, remaining 2 cups water and half of flour to smooth batter. Stir in yeast. Add remaining flour. Mix well. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise until double. Punch down and let rise for 15 minutes. Pinch off pieces the size of an egg, shape and put on Sreanet sheet. Cover and let rise. Bake 15-20 minutes at 400° F. OVERNIGHT BUNS Mrs. J. W. Smith, Summerberry. Y4-cup shortening. 1 cup cold water. 1, «CUTS sugar. 1 cup cold milk. 1 egg. 1 pkg. yeast soaked as directed on \4tsp. baking powder. packet. 1 tsp. salt. Ahout 7 cups flour. Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg, liquid and yeast. Add baking power and salt to flour and use enough flour to make a soft dough. Set in a cool place overnight (refrigerator will do). Put in pans in the morning and let rise 2 or 3 hours. Bake 15 to 20 minutes at 375° F. ORANGE BREAD Mrs. F. Hextall. 1144 oranges—peel only. 1,-cup milk. 1,-cup sugar. 2 cups flour. 2 eggs, well beaten. 2 tsp. baking powder. 1 tbsp. butter. Cut peel of oranges very fine, boil in water to cover until tender-— about 20 minutes. Do not drain. Add sugar and simmer until syrup is thick. Mix remaining ingredients and add peel and syrup. Mix again. Bake in Icaf pan in 350° oven for 1 hour. OVEN SCONES Mrs. E. G. Read. 5 cups flour. 1 cup sour cream. 14-cup sugar. 1 tsp. soda. 1 tsp. salt. Buttermilk to mix. 3 tsps. baking powder. Sift dry ingredients. Mix in cream with soda added and enough butter- milk to mix properly. Stir as little as possible. Roll out and cut into tri- angles. Bake at 425° for 10-15 minutes. Yield 3 dozen. RAISIN BUNS Mrs. McKenzie. 2 pkgs. yeast. 1,-cup shortening. 2 tsps. sugar. 1 cup sugar. 1 cup luke warm water. 2 eggs (well beaten). 1 tsp. salt. Flour. 2 cups scalded milk (cooled). Raisins and candied peel to taste. - Mix yeast, sugar and lukewarm water and let rise until foamy. Then mix yeast with flour to make a soft dough or sponge. Let rise till light, add salt, milk, shortening, sugar, eggs and flour. Add raisins and peel. Let rise till double in size. Shane into buns. Let rise until light. Bake in 400° oven. 15 to 20 minutes. 9
