_ Mra. Frank Olsen of Bellingham was

dressed for a fractured wrist in the lo-
cal hospital last Saturday.

Under supervision of B. Newcomb,
‘fa large force of men from the Mill, as-
sisted by Abbotsford business men,
gathered on the Jubilee grounds last
evening, and with rakes leveled a piece
of ground for a baseball diamond.
Teams are at work today rolling and
packing the area, in anticipation of
having a fine baseball diamond in
readiness for a game on Saturday,

Mr, and Mrs. A, P. Grant, of New
Westminster, who were returning by
motor from California, visited Mrs
W. Gray, the Mill, for a short time last
week.

A meeting of the Association to the
Girl Guides will be held on Monday,
May 28 at 3 p.m. in the Parish hall.

Mrs. Bennett is president of the Girl
Guides organization, not Mrs. Benedict,
as was reported,

Mrs. Little, capable hostess at the
Mill boarding house, has left her po-
sition because of ill-health, and takes
up residence in her house on McCal-
lum road.

Mr. Crockett, Union Oil Co. construc-
tion foreman, has gone to Edmonton
to supervise work for his concern there

Mrs. W. G. Kitchen has as guest her
sister, Miss Edna Stewart of Glasgow,
Scotland, who will stay for the summer

A number of Abbotsford residents
attended the funeral of J. W. Whistler,
of Mission, who was drowned in the
Fraser river last week. Mr. Whistler
lost control of his car in turning at the
north approach to Mission bridge, his
machine plunging in the river into
ten feet of water. When recovered, the
car headlights were still burning, two
hours after the accident, and deceas-
ed’s watch was running.

Several details of game proteoton'
were taken up at a meeting of the
Sumas Game Protective Association
held in the municipal hall last Mon-
day. Wild pigeons cause considerable
damage to farm crops in the early
summer, and the Association framed
a resolution to be forwarded the Game
Board asking that the provincial con-
stable or other responsible person be
invested with authority to issue shoot-
ing permits to farmers when conditions
warranted. At present this permission
must be obtained from Victoria, neces-
sitating a wait of about five days, dur-
ing which time the birds are able to
do much damage.

The Sumas Association joined with
other game associations in disapproval
of the methods adopted on duck-hunt-
ing preserves, wliere the birds are fed
to a conditfon of tameness, and then
slaughtered in large numbers by hun- |
ters haying the privileges.
Stocking of Devil Lake, on the gel
of Sumas mountain, with a suitable
trout fry, was promised in a letter from
A. P. lliday, fisheries inspector, who
requested particulars of , the physical
conditions which prevailed around the
body of water, The lake covers about
15 acres, and is said to haye contained
fish at various times.
