Add sugar, melted butter, vanilla and milk, Sift to- gether flour, baking powder and salt, Add to egg mixture, Beat until well blended, Drop by small spoonfuls into preheated shortening. Fry till golden brown, turning to brown evenly. Drain: Put on absorbent paper, Roll in confectioners sugar. Frying Temp: 375°, Time: about 2 mins, Makes about 1 1/2 dozen, * * KX K KK KK K K KK K K ORANGE TEA WHIRLS Temp: 375° Time: 15 mins, 3 eggs 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 cup sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 6 tbsp. orange juice 1/2 cup confectioners sugar 1 cup sifted cake flour Beat eggs until thick and lemon colored, beat in sugar gradually. Blend in orange juice, combine and sift flour, baking powder and salt; fold into egg mixture. Pour into 10" x 15" jelly roll pan, greased and lined with waxed paper. Bake. Spread two damp towels on the table, covered with wax paper which has been sprinkled generously with confectioners sugar, Turn out the jelly roll on one towel and quickly pull off the paper. Cut the cake down the centre lengthwise and move one half to second towel. Roll up each piece the long way of the roll, working towards you. Set the rolls aside, still wrapped in the towels, until the rolls and sauce are cool, Then unwrap the rolls, unroll, spread with filling, cut each half into four pieces and re-roll into junior sized rolls, Then for tea, slice into small rounds, or for children's parties or family lunch box, serve the junior rolls whole. Orange Filling 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp. lemon rind (or orange) 4 tbsp. corn starch 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tbsp, butter or margarine 1 1/4 cups orange juice Combine sugar, corn starch and salt. Blend in orange juice and rind.
