THE DAILY PROVINCE OCTOBER 28, 1914 p.1 MEWA SINGH TO BE TRIED ON FRIDAY ------------------- Hindu Proposes to Go into the Box and Tell Why He Shot at Hopkinson. ------------------- The trail of Mewa Singh for the murder of Immigration Inspector W.C. Hopkinson has been fixed for Friday, and said will be made the occasion by Mewa Singh to make a public statement of the motives which led him to the shooting. This statement, it is said, will show that the shooting had nothing whatever to do with the Komagata Maru affair, but is connected with the shooting affray in the Sikh temple and the prosecuted of Bela Singh. Mr. E.M.N. Woods has been retained by the friends of the accused to appear for him at the trail but what line of defence will be adopted is not yet known. Mr. Woods appeared this morning in the assize Court on behalf of Mewa Singh when the case was set down for hearing on Friday morning. The trail will be a short one, and will, it is expected, be over before the court adjourns on Friday evening.
