A spark from the church chimney, which lodged in the steeple, is sald to have started the blaze. Fanned by the flerce north-east wind, the flames quickly enveloped the entire church building, defying the futile efforts of fire-fighters. The entire building and contents was destroyed, but a few household articles, the property of Mr. and Mrs. Ecklund, whose apart- ment was in the rear of the church, being rescued, Fanned by the gale, the flames Jumped the street and took hold of the gas station, which was quickly razed to the ground. Water was played upon the Olsen and Faulkner homes, which were serjously threatened for a time when sparks fell upon them, but the blazes thus started were jean neulshees as quickly as they started. Tv loss of over $4,000, is partly covered by insurance. This is the most serious fire ever Suffered in Matsqui village.
