THE DAILY PROVINCE APRIL 16, 1914 BOAT LOAD OF HINDUS ON WAY TO VANCOUVER ------------------- Despatch to German Paper States that Four Hundred East Indians Left Shanghai on Tuesday on a Japanese Steamer; Bound for This Port. (Special Copyright Cable to the Vancouver Daily Province and Montreal Star) ------------------- London, April 16.—German newspapers received in London today contain a German Cable Company’s message from Shanghai announcing the departure of the steamer Komagata Maru from Shanghai for Vancouver on April 14 with 400 East Indians on board, 200 from Shanghai, 150 from Hongkong and the remainder form Nagasaki. The steamer was chartered by a rich East Indian, Curdit Singh, in order to test what the Canadian authorities mean to do under the recent court decision that Canada is not justified in excluding natives of India. The despatch adds that if his party is allowed to land, Curdit Singh intends to organize a regular emigration service between India and Canada. WINDERMERE.
