Award noininatlon time again It’s time to start thinking about who might merit the two major awards offered by UCFV each year: the Outstanding Achievement award and the Betty Urquhart Community Service award. Nominations should be forwarded to the President’s office by April 14. This year, people nominating groups or individuals for the Betty Urquhart Community Service award will be asked to make a presentation to the UCFV Board in order to held The Outstanding Achievement award is presented to a group or individual within __ UCFV who have/has made an extraordinary contribution to advancing the mission of UCFV in the community. This award is given for specific projects or achievements that do not fall within the individual or group’s normal job responsibilities. The University College Council will select the winner of this award. Criteria The project or achievement must have: e had a significant impact on the mission of UCFV e been initiated or implemented by UCFV employee(s) or student(s) ‘ @ be outside the scope of the employee(s)’‘regular job description e have taken place at least partially during the preceding 12 months. The Betty Urquhart Community Service award is presented to a group or individual who have/has made an extraordinary contribution to a community within the UCFV region. It was named in honour of Betty Urquhart after her death in 1995. Betty was one of the college’s first employees, and spent much of her career forging links between the institution and its communities, especially in Chilliwack. The award is given for a specific’ project or series of projects. Nominations . may be made to the UCFV Board by anyone in the college region. The Board will select the winner. Criteria The project or achievement must have: e hada significant impact on the community e fit within UCFV’s mission of “enhancing the quality ¢ of life of its communities” e been undertaken at least partially as a volunteer endeavour, and not part of anyone’s salaried or contractual obligations e taken place at least partially during the last 12 months. New folks Christine Puder Christine Puder has been hired as a full-time instructor in the ECE/CYC department, replacing Duane Seibel who moved to Selkirk College. Christine was working at B.C. Children’s Hospital before joining UCFV, and had also taught for us sessionally. She started her career* as a psychiatric nurse, then earned a BA in Child and Youth Care at UVic anda master’s degree in educational psychology at UBC. Her teaching specialty will be hospital-based care of children and families, and family-centred care. “I’m familiar with the CYC program and always wanted to teach after gaining _ clinical and management experience,” Christine says. On UCFV, she notes, “I enjoy it here. It seems like a very organized, professional atmosphere, with a nice sense of community.” _ Her hobbies include running and fitness, she has made many conference presentations, and she’s the proud mum of two boys. To those administrators of (instructional) department pages who - have expressed some frustration about being unable to quickly locate where their page is listed, take heart. The “Programs and Courses” link from the — home-page has been re-fashioned by Warren Stokes and Dave Stephen to help lead people right to the category they want. Website administrator Bryan Daniel is adding the links in these new sections as he is able to. In the meantime, links for departments that do not have web-pages yet, which used to lead to the “Under - Construction” image, have been dropped to eliminate an annoyance for surfers. When web-pages for those - departments are created, links can be added.
