=“ oe DOUBLE DATE DEVIL'S FOOD 22 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp. vanilla 14 tsp. soda 3 unbeaten eggs 1 tsp. salt 3 squares melted # cup butter (half shortening) unsweetened chocolate 2 cups sugar 1 1/3 cups water Sift together the dry ingredients, cream butter and sugar and blend in vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in melted chocolate, Add dry ingredients. Pour into three 8 or 9" round layer pans, well greased, and lightly floured on the bottoms, Bake in 350 oven for 25 to 35 minutes. Cool; fill and frost. Date Filling % cup sugar 8 oz. pkg. dates cut 2 tbsp. flour in pieces 1/8 tsp. salt 2 slightly beaten egg yolks 2 cups milk 1 tsp. vanilla Combine in saucepan sugar, flour and salt. Add gradually the milk, stir in dates, Bring to boil; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick. Blend a little of the hot mixture into egg yolks; add hot mixture in saucepan, Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in vanilla, Cool. Frost with Marshmallow Frosting.
