wenn UUUeR POU : 5 A FEW PRACTICAL ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE U.F. W. A. The United Farm Women of Alberta were organized in 1915, in MacDougal! Church, Edmonton. Immediately committees on health, education and Young People’s work were formed, with legislation being added a short time later, and the U.F.W.A. began a systematic study of all these subjects. In 1917 a resolution passed at the Annual Convention asked for municipal hospitals, and since then the group have been actively engaged in the advancement of all health mat- ters, hospitals, clinics, the nursing branch, health units, the Sterilization Act which made possible the work of the Eugenics Board, the extermination of venereal disease, mental hygiene and health insurance. As the years passed the interests of this women’s group broadened until there were included in their programme, horticulture, handicrafts, home economics, co-operation, peace and international relationship. Many reforms have resulted from the investigations and research of this group. The Dower Act, Mothers’ Allowance, Equal Parental Rights, Needy Litigants Act, and revisions in the School Curricula, are a very few of the Acts in the Pro- vincial field, while reforms in Federal legislation in regard to Domicile, Divorce, and Personal Naturalization, along with many others are to the credit of the U.F.W.A. The Farm Young People’s Week and the Fafm Women’s Week are two courses sponsored by the group. The vision for the future and for which the women toil is a happier world for mankind.
