Headlines/Sept. 6, 1991 Dick Bate congratulates Jean DePape at her farewell luncheon. Health willing, Jean will be leading a tour to Africa soon. Jean thanks everyone who turned out for the luncheon and those who reorganized it after it was postponed. Thanks from Jean DePape Dear FVC and FSA friends and colleagues, Three months ago I was counting the nights on duty as evening supervisor until my retirement. I had four to go when I had the dubious excitement of being whisked off for my first ever ambulance ride to St. Pauls Hospital for emergency surgery, from which I emerged 10 days later relatively intact. Ten days later I returned to St. Pauls in like fashion (thanks FSA and Barry for extended medical) for post-op complications which necessitated a longer stay. A month after being released, I’m still in the process of a lengthy, restful recovery but I am getting better, for which I am thankful. I want to take this means of thanking all of you who have been so thoughtful and supportive throughout my unexpected illness and recuperation. I’ve deeply appreciated your many expressions of concern and friendship through your cards, calls flowers, gifts and visits. Thanks to each of you. I hope you had a more rewarding summer than I did. I miss you! Jean DePape Witter on leave, but who’s on first? Dean of Continuing Education Susan Witter has started a six-month educational leave. Witter will be spending the fall in Toronto as a visiting scholar at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. In January and February she will be visiting New Zealand, combining a vacation with visits to technical institutes. Witter’s leave has set off a series of “musical chairs” in Continuing Education. Rae McCombs will be sitting in as dean, Cheryl Isaac-Clark has moved to Chilliwack to take his place, Catherine McDonald-Smith is filling in for Cheryl, Susan Davis is filling in for Catherine, and Susan Delong is taking Susan Davis’s place.
