Website, continued from page 1 to departments to assist them in creating their own pages. As well, guidelines will be developed for the appropriate “linkages” between independent departmental material and college-wide information such as course listings, - entrance requirements, etc. which have previously been captured in the UCFV calendar or other publications. There are still many technical and policy issues which will need to be addressed. For example, will every faculty and/or staff member be able to develop his or her own page? Will every student? How will we handle the volumes of requests for home pages and how will the long-term responsibility for the Website be factored into the overall technical, support, and communications resources required? Hopefully, many of these issues will be addressed in the coming months. Regular meetings of the Website committee are expected to be scheduled to assist in shaping this exciting new medium. As well; departments are encouraged to consider how they might get involved in shaping and developing their own home pages so that soon UCEV will have a comprehensive, first-class presence on the World Wide Web. The real advantage to a website is that it can be changed quickly to reflect updated information or a change in layout. Although UCFV is late, compared to many other post-secondary institutions, in getting its website up and running, we can use the examples and drawbacks of | other sites to better our own. Anyone who wants more information ~- about how to get involved in the development of the UCFV website should contact Rob Hamm in CaTS at local 4629, e-mail Hammr, or Dave Stephen in Community Relations at 2818, e-mail Stephend.
