THE DAILY PROVINCE DECEMBER 7, 1906 p.1 HINDUS’ SHACK FIRED BY INCENDIARY TO-DAY ------------------Outfits of Fifteen Are Burned in Quick Blaze This Morning. ------------------WAS SECOND ATTEMPT. ------------------Fire Discovered in Building Last Night Was Soon Extinguished. ------------------Hindus who have been occupying a shack owned by Mr. H. B. A. Vogel, half a mile beyond the cemetery on the North Arm road, were evidently the victims of a genuine outrage this morning. About fifteen were living in the house. Last evening it was reported to Mr. Vogel that a fire had been started by some one[Sic] at the shack, and that it was discovered before any damage was done. This morning Mr. Vogel paid a visit to the place at 9 o’clock. All the Hindus had gone away to work. The house was filled with their belongings, stoves, beds, blankets, etc. At 10 o’clock, only an hour later, the building was in a mass of flames. It burned completely, and with it all the belonging of those fifteen Hindus. Reward is Offered. In view of the fire yesterday and the absence of the Hindus at their work this morning, Mr. Vogel has come to the conclusion that the fire was incendiary, and has offered a reward of $100 for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who set fire to the building. THE DAILY PROVINCE DECEMBER 7, 1906 p.1 The loss on the structure was not large, for it was merely a barn, but the Hindus will feel the loss of their clothing and outfits during the cold weather very sadly.
