Headlines/October 14, 1998 Student referendum ona gymnasium at UCFV On October 9, 13 and 14, UCFV students who take at least one course in Abbotsford were asked to vote on whether they would be willing to pay $15 per semester to help fund a student activity centre on the Abbotsford campus. The proposed centre would house not only a gym but a student lounge, fitness room, meeting spaces, coffee bar and student union offices, according to a | Student Union Society handout. ’’ “In addition to being home to the Cascades, UCFV’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, the centre could be used for meetings, social events, intramural sports, dances, fashion shows, art displays, fitness classes, personal fitness training, concerts, convocation and other ceremonies or just hanging out.” Proposed funding for the centre would come from the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology, UCFV and students through this $15 fee and the Student Legacy Fund. The location of the proposed centre is yet to be determined. Results of the student poll will be available after October 19 from the Student Union Society office. Proposed floor plan: .. Members of the University College community are entitled to an atmosphere free of harassment. It is for this reason that the University College has created a policy that prohibits all kinds of harassment. UCFV’s Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Office, in conjunction with the Faculty and Staff Association, and the Student Union have created a network to assist anyone who has a complaint. — The Human Rights Advisor Network consists of a number of trained faculty, staff and students who act as initial contacts for members of the UCFV community who believe they might be experiencing a conflict or concern which falls within the scope of UCFV's These advisors offer a supportive and non-judgmental climate in which to voice concems. Advisors offer a high level of neutrality when responding to individual needs. They also provide information on resolution options available under UCFV's Harassment Prevention Policy, problem solving assistance and/or referral to appropriate campus or community resources.
