STRANGE 1144 Fleshmans Yeast 1 cup shortening 7 lbs. flour 14 cup sugar 7 eggs W4cup salt Mix above ingredients with warm milk or water as you would bread. Let mixture stand for 3 hours (by this time should be double in size). Keep warm. Knead lightly. Put in pans and let stand again for one hour or so. Bake at 325 degrees. MUFFINS By MRS. A. F. DAY 1 lb. flour ly pt. sweet milk 1 oz. lard or butter 1 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. sugar Mix flour, salt and sugar well. Rub in butter. Make into dough quickly. Add milk gently till dough is moderately soft. Roll out on board till ™% inch thick. Cut out small circles and place at once in hot oven. Bake 5 to 10 minutes. NAN’‘S BUNS By NAN FAREBROTHER 1% cups warm milk in 2 egg yolks 1 yeast cake or pkg. Enough bread flour to make 1 tbsp. granulated sugar soft dough 1 egg white Let mixture rise for one hour. Take 1 tbsp. at a time. Work with fingers and flour into flat cakes. Dent in center and put in cherry or jam. Cover with crumbs made by mixing 2 tbsp. icing sugar, 1 tbsp. butter, 2 tbsp. flour. Let this rise for 20 minutes. Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees. ORANGE LOAF By MRS. KENNETH MacGOWAN 1 orange, juice and grated Milk rind 2 cups flour | Sugar 3 tsp. baking powder 1 egg 1% tsp. salt Place grated rind and juice of one orange in a cup and fill with white sugar (use \% cup juice). Beat 1 egg and add enough milk to make 1 cup. Combine these two mixtures and add flour sifted with baking powder, and salt. Put in loaf tin, let stand for 20 minutes. Bake in slow oven (300- 325 degrees) for 30 minutes. RYE BREAD By MRS. K. G. LEGGE 2 cups rye flour 14 cup golden syrup 2 cups boiling water 1 tsp. seed (Anise) or 1 yeast 2 tbsp. shortening 3 tsp. salt Pour boiling water over rye flour and let cool to luke warm. Add the yeast, salt and syrup. Knead until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl, cover. Let rise until double in bulk. Mould into loaves and let rise again until double in bulk. Bake for one hour in oven 350 degrees.
