RAISIN BREAD % cup butter 1 cup white sugar eggs 1 cup raisins 1 tsp. soda z cup buttermilk 1 orange 4 cups flour z tsp. salt Put orange and raisins through food chopper. Cream butter and sugar well. Add beaten eggs. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Add flour alternately to first mixture. Stir in minced raisins and orange. Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 1 hour. Mrs. E. Houchin, Olds. MARSHMALLOW GINGERBREAD % cup shortening % tsp. salt 1 cup sugar 4 tsp. cinnamon % cup molasses (sweet) 4 tsp. allspice 4 2% cups flour tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. soda 2 eggs unbeaten 1 tsp. ginger 1 cup hot water Cream sugar and shortening, add molasses and eggs well beaten. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with water. Spread one-half of batter on well greased pan. Cut up marshmallows and lay on top of this, then add the rest of the batter. OUR FAVORITE GINGERBREAD % cup white sugar % cup butter or other shortening 1 egg 1 cup molasses 22 cups sifted flour 1 tsp. ginger 13 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 cup hot water z tsp. salt Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten egg and molasses. Add dry ingredients which have been sifitted together. Add hot water last and beat until smooth. This batter is soft but makes a fine cake.
