To Press For Yale Road Paving meeting in Cloverdale last Wednesday, Alex, Paterson, M.L.A. for the Delta, promised to request fi miles of ash- phalt oiling for the Yale road at the next session of the provincial legisla- ture, the work to be executed next yea While the offer was appr ted those present, a resolution passed to urge the Government to commence hard-surfacing the main K'raser” Valley highway from Chilliwack to Cloverdale or Serpentine Flats, excepting only the new Sumas Trunk road, the condition of which is not yet suitable for paving. The movement to stir the Govern- ment in this matter is gaining impetus in various parts of the Valley, as it is generally felt that the requirement is too urgent to await governmental ini- tiative. The mecting called for October 12 in Aldergrove to press this matter opens at 8 o’elock, and will likely be attended by representative men from all parts of the Valley. Editor News: At the last regular meeting of this Abbotsford, Sumas and Matsqui branch of the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League, attention was called to the collection of donations throughout the country alleged to be on behalf #f veterans of the Great War disabled or otherwise in needy cireum- stances. Some of the collectors have solicited in such a way as to lead those approached to belive they were collect- ing on behalf of the Canadian Legion. Correspondenco has been received from tho provincial headquarters of the Le- gion stating definitely that the only Solicitation that has been in any way authorized or countenanced has .been for annual subscriptions to the ‘‘Le- gionary’’ the official publication of the Canadian Legion. The solicitation of donations from the general public for any other purpose is not only not au- thorized, but is looked upon with grave suspicion by the headquarters of the Legion, as to the disposition of funds so collected. I have been directed to ask if you will kindly publish this warning, and suggest that the residents in this dis- trict should not respond to any appeal for funds on behalf of Veterans of the Great War, unless such appeal is en- dorsed by the president of this branch, Mr. J.
