HAMBLY 1 lb. chopped dates , 1 tbsp. butter ltsp. baking soda—sprinkled over 34 cup white sugar dates 1 egg yolk Cream together Pinch of salt eae ltsp. vanilla 1 cup boiling water—poured Combine above, then add: over dates and soda 2 cups flour Let stand until cool. 1 cup walnuts Beat egg white and add to mixture. Bake in loaf pan at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. DATE LOAF By GRACE FEATHERSTONE 1 lb. dates 1 tsp. soda 34 cup sugar 1 egg yolk 1 tbsp. butter Pinch of salt 1 tsp. vanilla 2 cups flour 1 cup walnuts White of 1 egg Sprinkle soda over dates. Put 1 cup boiling water over this and let stand until cool. Combine dates with sugar, butter, egg yolk, salt and vanilla. Add 2 cups flour, 1 cup walnuts. Add beaten egg white last. Bake 50 minutes at 325 degrees. DATE AND NUT LOAF By MRS. W. M. HILL %4 cup shortening (half and 1% cup chopped nuts half) 14% cups chopped dates 14% cups brown sugar 1 cup boiling water 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla % tsp. salt 1 tsp. soda 2 cups flour Cream sugar and shortening. Add beaten egg yolks and vanilla. Sift flour, soda and salt. Add % to sugar mixture. Add dates and nuts. Add boiling water, then add remaining flour mixture. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. This makes a thin batter. Do not add more flour. Bake in a loaf pan about 13 inches long and 3 inches deep for 1 hour at 325 degrees. FRUIT SANDWICH LOAF ; By MRS. FLORENCE M. HAND ~ 2 cups flour 1 cup raisins 3 tsp. baking powder 4 cup currants 1 small tsp. salt % cup chopped walnuts or Y% tsp. mace other fruit ly Cup sugar 1 egg 4 tbsp. shortening 1 tsp. vanilla Sift flour, baking powder, salt and mace together, then add sugar. Put in shortening and mix well. Add raisins, currants and walnuts or other fruit. Break 1 egg in cup. Beat well; add tsp. vanilla. Fill cup with milk. Com- bine with fruit and flour mixture. Let rise 15 minutes. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
