Cookies PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup shortening 1 cup peanut butter | 2 eggs 1 level tsp. soda 3 cups flour pinch salt | Drop with teaspoon on cookie sheet. Mark each one with fork before baking. Cook in moderate oven—375°. GROAT CAKES 1 cup flour 1% cup groats 2 tbsp. butter 4 tsp. baking powder 2/3 cup milk salt Roll thin—bake to light brown. COX. { BOSTON COOKIES 1 cup brown sugar 4 tsp. soda dissolved in water 1144 cup flour 2/3 cups butter or lard 4 lb. walnuts 2 eggs 1 tsp. each cinnamon and cloves %% lb. dates and raisins Drop from teaspoon on to buttered tins and bake in hot oven. HOSTEL COOKIES 1 cup brown sugar 34 cup melted butter 1 egg 2 cups sifted flour 14 tsp. soda 14 tsp. cream tartar vanilla 14 cup chopped walnuts 14 cup chopped cherries Mix well. Take small teaspoon full or small quantity between fingers, put on baking pan, mark or press with fine fork. Oven about 400°—15 minutes or less. MRS. S. J. COX. ICE BOX COOKIES (UNCOOKED) 1 cup dates 16 graham wafers 16 marshmallows 14 cup Eagle brand condensed 1 tsp. vanilla milk 14 cup nuts 4 Cut dates, crush nuts, quarter marshmallows. Roll wafers. Add milk and mix. Roll extra crumbs. Drop above mixture by teaspoon into crumbs and form into balls. Store in cool place. Keep well. MRS. A.
