C, LAND SURVEYOR & CIVIL Rowles will enter tne employ of the principal by-laws at the meeting of delegates, June 29, in Vancouver, is already a big step. Undoubtedly it 1s now necessary for the local organiza- tion to put in some energy (particular- ly so for the Abbotsford District Poul- try Association), It seems to me that at. first it is necessary: ().—To exactly establish the area of action of the Abbotsford Poultry Assn. (2).—To find out the number of all poultry farms having over 200 birds. (3).—Establish the number of poul- trymen wishing to join the organiza~ tion, for independent sale of the poul- try-farm products. These data will give the possibility to determine if the existence of Abbots- ford branch of B. C. P. & E. Co-op. Assn., with its own representative as a director of Central Association is pos- sible. Certainly we realize that the several involved big firms, defending their own interests, will do everything to spread doubt and disbelief among the poultrymen. Probably they will find among the poultrymen, persons, who, following instructions of these firms, will agitate against organiza- tion of sales on co-operative basis. It is up to the poultrymen to decide what is best, themselves. We can say here, that one of the largest banks of Canada has already expressed its wish to give financial assistance to the B.C. Poultry and Egg Co-op. Assn., and re- mark that the export is af present so organized that eggs loaded on board a steamer can be immediately sold in England, or even an advance can be received for the bill of lading; finally we will express confidence that farmers of B. C. will be able (mot worse than private persons) to organize the sale of their products, The history of the last 25 years con- firms this belief. The leading coun- try of butter and eggs—Denmark—ex- ports all its butter and eggs to Eng- land through co-operative associations; the Union of Siberiah Creamery As- sociations, long before the great war, had its offices in England and Ger- many, and later in Boston and New York. The success of recently-organ- ized poultry pool of Saskatchewan and Manitoba is before everybody’s eyes. But especially striking is the colossal success, during the last 11 years, of the Washington Co-op. Egg & Poultry Assn which was able to export to the East, of not only eggs, but dressed poultry as well, This last is especially important to all of us, as sales of roosters 1s grow- ing more difficult every year. Is it possible that farmers of B.C. and Ab- ford particularly, will prove to be less apt to defend their own interests. ? We don’t think so. JOS, K. OKULITOH, Agr. Eng.
