Assemble the following: 2 small bowls Set of measuring spoons Rolling pin Measuring cup Baking sheet Kitchen scissors (sharp) Wire rack Tea towel or cloth same size Spatula Pastry brush Small bowl for icing Spoon to blend icing Ingredients: 2 tablespoons soft or melted butter Y2 cup brown sugar 2 teaspoons cinnamon Ya cup chopped dates (OR raisins or currants) 1 cup icing sugar 1 to 2 tablespoons milk or water Y2 teaspoon vanilla 6 glazed or maraschino cherries 2 tablespoons chopped nuts Melt the 2 tablespoons shortening or butter and grease the sheet with part of melted shortening. Roll dough into rectangle (9” x 18”). Spread with butter. (Leave a strip along one lengthwise edge unbuttered so it can be sealed more easily after rolling up). Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle with dates. (Y2 cup raisins or currants may be used, or a_ mixture including nuts.)
