THE VANCOUVER BRIDE 39 C ombatting the Moth Even in the winter you may be troubled with these insects if you do not know how to treat them. It is not the small moth which destroys our valuables in such a ruthless fashion, but the tiny maggots which are hatched from moth’s eggs. There- fore, the housewife must be for ever on the look-out for these small grubs, not only when the moth is visible, but during the winter months. These small white maggots prefer to live on fibres of silks and furs, moreover, they dislike cleanliness, sunlight, fresh air, and anything with a pungent smell. Badly washed woven underwear, blankets that have been used and stored without being washed, a non-washing woollen dress, or the carpet of a room that is little used are very likely objects of attack. Furs which are not required for some time should be well shaken or beaten, then hung in sunlight for several hours, when they will be ready to be stitched securely inside a linen or cotton bag. If any garment or curtain is found to be badly infested with moth eggs, it is true economy to burn it entirely and so do away with any danger of the pest spreading.« Formalin, turpentine, cedar wood and naphthalene are some of the most useful substances for keeping moth away from cupboards and drawers. Special anti-moth spray preparations are now made which are very effec- tive. The Core of Fass By R. Chas. Gordon The amount of wear and satisfaction you get from your furs depends largely on the care YOU give them. If you will observe these few simple rules in the care of your furs, you will prolong their service, and increase your satisfaction. Price has nothing to do with the durability of a fur garment, the most expensive furs are frequently less durable than the cheapest. However, even the most perishable fur will outwear the stronger if the former is properly rahi for, and regularly cleaned by an experienced furrier, and the latter is abused. Some furs are classed as utility furs, for harder wear, such as, shopping, motoring, and business wear; others, less durable are for lighter wear. Select the furs most suitable for the purposes you require them. Your furrier will advise you.
