THE DAILY PROVINCE AUGUST 12, 1914 JAPANESE AND HINDUS READY ------------------- Five Hundred East Indians Are Anxious to Enlist to Fight for Empire. ------------------- Japanese of Vancouver Offered Their Services to Premier Borden Today. ------------------- “There are 500 of my countrymen ready to enlist to fight for the Empire in Europe,” said a Hindu today in one of the regimental recruiting stations when he sought information as to whether the application of East Indians would be accepted at any of the recruiting offices here. It is proposed that these Hindus get in touch with Ottawa on the subject with the idea possibly of sending a regiment of Hindus from British Columbia for duty in England while the war on the continent is proceeding. Vancouver Japanese have sent a telegram to Premier Borden stating that their services in either the naval or military departments of Britain are offered. This message was forwarded by the Canadian Japanese association, which number 700 members. Fifty percent of these men have seen service in the Japanese army or navy.
